Lately, Thailand has been attracting the world's attention for all the right reasons. From opening up of the democratic space in the country to attracting huge numbers of tourists to having an active gastronomy sector, the country is poised for greatness its founding fathers could only hope to achieve.

Going by the rating and feedback Thai dishes have been getting, it is only a matter of time before Thai cuisine supplants Italian cuisine from the pedestal spot it occupies. Below are some of the top-rated Thai delicacies.

1. Tom Yum Gung

Imagine how a combination of shrimp, mushrooms, tomatoes, lemongrass, galangal and kaffir lime leaves would taste...that is how Tom Yum Gung tastes. Only the Thai people could cook up such a creative masterpiece. It is a cornupation of sour, salty, spicy and sweet, all in one bowl.

2. Gang Som Pak Ruam

Most of the dishes served in Thailand are healthy - junk food is a no no in this country. Gang Som Pak Ruam is mad with carrots, cabbage and green beans. Alternatively, it can be made with deep fried omelet made from eggs and Thai acacia leaves. I did not think you could use acacia leaves for anything that is consumed by people...this is giraffe food where I come from.

3. Gang Keow Wan

This is a Thai soup that is made up of Thai green curry, green curry paste, coconut milk, bamboo shoots, chicken, Thai basil, Thai eggplant and some roots and herbs. It is served along with a bowl of rice.

4. Panang Gai

This is a mixture of red curry, fried chicken, and coconut cream that brings out a succulent culinary masterpiece. To add to the taste, some kaffir lime leaves are finely chopped of and sprinkled on top of the dish.

5. Gang Massaman

This is a curry sauce that originates from southern Thailand and features a combination of curry paste, coconut milk, flavored peanuts, and a hint of nutmeg and cinnamon. Fried chicken chunks are dipped into the curry to complete the taste.

I find Thai food very exotic...I mean, they are refreshingly different. If you get a chance, visit Thailand and see for yourself.
